Fostering an evolving Architecture for our Platform

To continuously evolve our platform and architecture, we rely on continuous, honest feedback from the development teams. Please don't hesitate to contact us directly in Slack (e.g. #somebody-to-love)..

Ways to Contribute

We consider our platform an internal open-source project, where everyone is welcome to contribute. Most of our platform components reside in the Platform Gitlab Group.

Some projects where contributions are especially helpful include:

• Platform Documentation
• Platform Base Chart
• Platform Auto-Devops Pipeline

The contribution process and related best practices are outlined in the following section.

Reporting & Fixing Bugs

If you discover a bug in one of our platform components, feel free to open a Gitlab issue in the related repository, using the bug_report issue template. Please also post a link to the issue in #somebody-to-love, or start the conversation there directly.

If something is not working as expected, you might have discovered a bug. We recognize that it's not easy for you to determine wether you did something wrong or there is actually a bug in the platform. But as the platform team is just as human as yourself, there is a chance you found a bug. If you have trouble to determine wether it's a bug or not, don't hesitate to reach out in our Slack channel #somebody-to-love.

You can also open a MR to fix the issue directly, however we recommend to reach out to us beforehand, to ensure there is no misunderstanding.

Suggesting & Implementing new Features

Extending our platform is important, so we can stay ahaed of the curve. Therefore, we rely on feature requests that directly impact your day-to-day interaction with the platform.

Indicators for Requesting a new Feature

• the functionality will be useful for multiple development teams
• the new feature will interact with multiple components from our platform
• the new feature will simplify the usage of our platform
• the new feature aligns with our Architecture Principles

There will always be trade-off between autonomous teams and providing a common platform. In case it is unclear whether a new feature should be included in the platform or not, please bring it up in the Architecture Guild (#architecture-guild in Slack).

A feature request can then be raised directly in the related Gitlab repository. Please use the feature_request issue template to raise the issue in the Platform Gitlab Group.

Improving our Documentation

As you are working with our documentation, you will inevitably find parts that are unclear or need to be refactored. Please raise an issue in our Platform Documentation, or directly open a MR to improve the docs.
